There are so many amazing writers out there today, especially for finance-related content. Rather than a planning scenario or market commentary, I wanted to list off some of my absolute favorite newsletters that I read each and every week.
Many of these individuals are my friends! They write awesome pieces, and in all honesty, I think more people should follow their work. So, let’s dive in!
First up, Chart Kid Matt. Matt is a good friend, and he absolutely CRUSHES the chart game. He puts out some of the best charts in the industry.
His newsletter is so interesting because he lets the charts tell the story. Readers get access to a chart and then can form their own opinions from it.
I actively follow Matt’s work, especially his newsletter. I have even used his charts many times within my own newsletter! If you’re visually inclined, this is your go-to guy.
Next - Sam Ro, the author of TKer. If you can’t tell by the number of times I have mentioned his content within my own pieces, Sam really is a GOAT. In all honesty, I think Sam was the first newsletter I ever subscribed to.
Sam has a knack for taking a holistic picture of the financial environment and making it extremely digestible. As an advisor, I read Sam’s work every Sunday before the start of the week. If you’re into financial data and current events, there is no one who breaks it down quite like Sam does.
Aravind Sithamparapillai - a friend, a mentor, an amazing advisor with insatiable curiosity. Aravind has been a close friend of mine for a few years now.
He writes his newsletter, Aravind’s Financial Musings on Substack, and I know that whenever he posts something, it is going to revolve around a current event, answer questions I may already have, and be outright genuine.
His posts usually revolve around planning, and he has a special talent for being able to build immediate rapport with his audience through his authentic tone. His curiosity makes him an amazing planner, and his thoughts, opinions, and insights are on full display within his newsletter.
Brent Sullivan - a flat-out genius and an all-around great guy. Brent writes Tax Alpha Insider, and his content is absolutely next level. He focuses on incredibly intricate and nuanced tax planning topics.
If you’re a finance nerd, you will love his content. I have been reading Brent’s newsletter for about 6 months, and my only regret is that I had not found it sooner.
I quite literally am a much better advisor for reading his content each day. I know a few advisors do follow me here - following Brent will completely change your approach to so many topics.
I had the pleasure of meeting Brent in California this fall, and he is such a wealth of knowledge.
PS: He has some great memes.
Ryan Greiser and Fran Walsh, co-authors of The Opulus Method. Their newsletter covers great planning topics with in-depth insights on planning strategies that most miss.
Their pieces do a great job of covering wealth-building strategies that most wish they had known sooner. I am an avid reader of anything Ryan and Fran put out. As awesome planners and great writers, they make it easy to subscribe.
Blake Millard - author of The Sandbox Daily. I had the privilege of listening to Blake give a keynote speech about his newsletter in California.
One thing that separates Blake from literally every other writer is that he writes every… single… day.
It blows my mind that he can keep that pace. I can barely keep up with a weekly newsletter. Nonetheless, Blake covers the market in real time. When markets get volatile, you can find me waiting for Blake’s newsletter to make better sense of it. A very level-headed approach, usually with an array of charts for visual aid, it is no wonder that his newsletter has been in my rotation for years now.
Last but not least. The bosses. Douglas and Heather, co-authors of The Joint Account.
As much as you might think that I have to include the bosses because they are the bosses, I truly love their newsletters.
Each of them riffs on a different subject each week. On a personal level, I think their pieces have influenced me to be a better advisor. Sure, spreadsheets and in-depth planning topics are fun. But what about the everyday issues, obstacles, and tailwinds couples face?
Their work is a must-read material for couples. I am not yet married… lol. But their work helps give me applicable insights every time I work with a married couple.
And if you want more of their content, don’t worry, you’re in luck. They just spent over 2 years writing their book, “Money Together,” and it goes live in less than a week. You can pre-order it here.
